Baby Moon anyone?

We have had several people tell us we should plan a baby moon, which is basically a vacation for the 2 of us before we become 3. Having recently returned from a 9 week trip around the world, we really didn't feel the need for another vacation, but our anniversary (6 years!) is coming up in May, so we decided we'd take a short weekend trip. Now we have to decide where to go! My first suggestion was San Diego, but since I will be 36 weeks pregnant by then, we decided we probably shouldn't venture more than a 4 hour car ride away. Then I suggested Monterey, since we haven't been before, and Lawrence said he'd rather not go to the beach and wanted to go to Yosemite. So I spent several hours over the weekend trying to find a nice B&B near Yosemite, knowing that I would be a pretty boring companion in Yosemite since I likely won't be able to hike much (if at all). Well, now Lawrence's coworker has recommended Carmel, and Lawrence is thinking that might work - since that was my pick, too, I'm all for it! We still have lots of figuring out to do, but hopefully we can put a plan together to take advantage of one of our last few weekends alone for awhile.

Speaking of weekends, this past weekend we went wine tasting in Amador County with another coworker, Kent, and his girlfriend, Jordan. They are from Kentucky and just moved here for Kent to work at Intel (he started the same day as Lawrence). Needless to say they were not very familiar with wine, so it was a great chance for Lawrence and I to show them around and try to teach them what little we now know about it. I didn't get to drink any wine, of course, but I did taste (and spit) several of them. And they all had a sober driver, which they seemed to appreciate. It was pretty hard to go along and not fully try the wines, but soon enough I'll be sipping the bottles we came back with :)

This is Kent and Jordan from Kentucky (and me, the pregnant one). Also notice the fabulous igloo in the woody wagon.

Baby girl Fraser is growing and kicking like crazy. I can't believe she's over 3 pounds now, although I can definitely feel it as she rolls around in there! The pelvic pain has either subsided a bit, or I've just gotten used to it because now the pain seems a little more dull and periodic. Maybe I just overdid it the weekend before last at the gym?? I've cut out walking from my gym routine and am sticking to stationary cycling and swimming and that seems to be helping.

We haven't picked a name for baby girl yet because I am waiting for Lawrence to think of some ideas. He says he doesn't want to bother since he's been told (by other people, not me) that he doesn't have any say in the name anyway. I'll keep trying to convince him his opinion matters, and that I can't agree to a name I haven't heard yet. He did a great job on the nursery this weekend, getting it almost all painted - just the closet doors and some touch up left to go. The dresser should be in some time this week, not that we're ready to move it in yet - still need to get the clouds painted on the ceiling :)

  1. Oh my goodness, you have to go to Carmel/Monterrey! If you've never been there you must go before the baby comes. It is the perfect place to take a babymoon. You may be able to hit both in the same trip but if not, do Carmel. It is something you need to see!

Glad your pelvis is feeling better.

  2. Hey! That's where we're going!!! It's nice too because it's a very dog friendly town, so we're planning on bringing the pooches.

How fun! Maybe we'll be there the same weekend!

  4. Look at that belly!!! :)

We went on our Baby Moon to Gualala, on the Mendocino Coast. But I agree Monterey/Carmel/Pacific Grove are fantastic. We stayed at a great B&B in Pacific Grove - very cute and they gave us a free cake. Plus, it will be good to know that you're no more than an hour from a Kaiser hospital, should you need it.

  5. We haven't quite set the date yet, but I think we're looking at mid-June. It would be nice to get away the weekend right after my last day of work/the school year. Do you know where you'll be staying?

    I love the belly!!
